How the magnetic field affects light is surprising.

About the candle flame; it is known that the flame
is ionized plasma and that it will conduct electricity
so it seems reasonable that a magnetic field would
influence it in some way. Although, there may be
more to the story.

Certainly does make one think on it!

Plasma is a cloud of protons, neutrons and electrons where all the electrons have come loose from their respective molecules and atoms, giving the plasma the ability to act as a whole rather than as a bunch of atoms.
