It's turtles all the way down

To all:

Apparently my ip was somehow blocked to this website for several days since my earlier post, so I used a different ip and was able to log in. For some reason whoever was blocking me did not disallow entry using my normal password.

I had been trying to gain access on 3 different computers and 4 different browsers with all cache etc. cleared.
Resetting the router also did not help. I had no difficulty accessing all other websites and bookmarks, but for OUR it would just spin then timeout saying cannot connect.

I was never notified in any way by pm or by email that I would be blocked.

I have deleted my post which some may have deemed offensive. I will not be posting anything further to this thread or to OUR.com until my original ip is cleared for entry, and only very carefully if allowed at all.

My fake ip in order to log in for posting this message was 103.250.185.187. I will start a separate thread to discuss this so not to disturb this thread.

Regards

If anyone knows why this may have occurred please comment here. I will delete the duplicate post on the other thread shortly.

edit: just tested again with my normal ip and was not able to log in but could with a new fake ip

Maybe, but still curious. We'll see how long it continues as I have never in many years at OUR seen this error.

Here is what comes back with my normal ip

ION,

as suggested by Peterae in the other thread, please open a command line window and use the "tracert" command.
Perhaps Peter can use the response to see why it fails.

My tracert command shows:

C:\Users\laptopkees>tracert www.overunityresearch.com

Hi Itsu
Thanks for the suggestion. I ran tracert both with my normal ip and with a fake ip. I get the same results in tracert (see pic). I can see that in each case I get to the UK server, but there is no ability to actually connect with my normal ip. I can connect with my fake ip.

This leads me to believe I am blocked at the UK server with my normal ip.

If there is any other reason please advise, as I am not a skilled network administrator.

Regards

ION,

not a skilled network administrator either, but are those 2 hops the only ones?
Looks like some traffic is missing compared to my route.

Hopefully Peter or Jimboot or ... can shed some light on it.

Dear itsu

I always seem to connect in two hops with fake ip. With normal ip I knock on the door of the UK server but there is no response.

I have to believe my ip is blocked at the UK server end. Even monitoring network activity with task manager, there is a request (with normal ip) but no response from the UK server.

This is data activity clearly different than the request / reply with a fake ip, which is recognized and allowed in. Large reply burst after the request.

I don't know where to go from here, but don't want to always have to login with a fake ip

Regards

OK three days later I am able to log on with normal ip.

Request to the UK server has always been rapid, around 10 milliseconds as seen by latest tracert.

So can anyone shed light on why my ip was blocked at the UK server with my normal ip?

As i said some time ago,i also have been locked out for 2 to 3 days at a time.

I suspect nothing more than a glitch ION  O0

Thanks Brad, I agree

First time I've had it happen in many years at OUR . I guess the UK server had to refresh.

Hopefully some IT pro here can explain how this happens, so next time I don't go crazy on my end trying to fix what ain't broke.

What did the tracert look like when you couldn't get through, are you saying the web page you reached said your IP address was banned or was the website just unreachable.?

Hi Peter

If you read back to my earlier posts, all tracert logs would show in both cases I reach the UK server within 10 ms, but it would not respond with my normal ip, only with my fake ip

It never said my ip was banned. The message I would get is "unable to connect" after along timeout or server is busy try again later.

But I could always load the page in 10 ms with a fake ip.

Has me puzzled, logic would seem to say my real ip was somehow blocked but I'm no IT guy, perhaps there is another answer.

Thanks for taking a look.

Regards
