Hello muDped.

Yes, on the roof of my workshop. The modest system has, over the last 18 months generated 2.5 MW.

The Sun provides us with limitless energy, I feel we should be researching in the area of an efficient storage system.

Cheers Graham.

2.5 mega watt-hours, perhaps?

The Sun provides us with limitless energy, I feel we should be researching in the area of an efficient storage system.

I have been looking at this concept for a long time and I don't think we have to invent anything "new" to achieve our goals. As existing technology improves and new technology is invented the overall effect on the total system will be expected to improve.

https://www.solarpowerworldonline.com/2015/08/what-is-the-best-type-of-battery-for-solar-storage/

A nice summary of some of the options for battery storage of the energy from the solar panels. As solar panel output will vary day to day and season it needs to be sized to the average we would require everyday, with an excess for emergency power requirements. We could literally begin experimenting tomorrow on some aspects, but first we need to size everything.

My hhophouse concept aims for something like the 'Naturhus', a home within a greenhouse:

https://www.ecowatch.com/couple-builds-greenhouse-around-home-to-grow-food-and-keep-warm-1882128131.html

I would prefer an underground house with a 'living garden area' inside a dome above the surface. The hhop hybrid pumps potable water up to a tank in the center of the roof and drip feed irrigates your plants, while the hho flame provides cooking and heating abilities.

The thermoelectric generator TK posted the other day provides a very cute way of using any waste heat energy for LED lighting, and refrigeration is taken care of by using the recaptured latent heat from the water purification system.

Ideally you would be running the hybrids from the battery bank itself and being direct DC devices no inverter required, it uses natural resistance of the electrolysis cell itself.

Thanks everybody!  Wishing all y'all Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year.  Sadly, it looks like big trouble is building
in our corrupted World gone insane.  The ordinary common
folk always bear the brunt of the suffering...

Its New Years Day - wishing everyone a safe and wonderful year.

I have concerns also, about the way things are going...  but there is a lot we can do individually and in our families and social groups.

Very nice Graham, but no wonder with such a father, it must be in the genes.
And who cares about the 9 years, as there have been plenty to discover at that sweet 16 age!

Hope all are well in the cold parts of USA, record lows from a polar front. Well here in Valencia we have record highs, 25*c today, normally 12-14*c. Last year where I am we had only the equivalent of 13 days of rain.

I see certain parts of the US are also having record highs as well, south west, what a difference of north east to south west.

Happy new year to all.

Regards

they actually are calling it a cyclone bomb in the news ...[turns out its a term associated with a specific pressure drop over 24hrs [24 millibars I think]

also dropping to minus 20 F    [-28 C  ] on the back edge of the storm ,I have personally never seen this in my time on the rock

it dawned on me that "Son of Grum's" sterling engine could be  a real power house if designed to run on these temperature potentials between the warm earth 53 F below my feet and the -20 coming this way.

we could harvest the energy from these storms...but sadly it will be coming your way fellows unweakened by any ambient energy harvesting [would be nice to change that ??]
