I'd like to slip in a Thank You to our friend LynxSteam - remember his cool joule? etc.?

He's developed a wind-sail air-turbine + generator.  Wind power.  Tested in cold Michigan yesterday:

It works!

Yes, the VAWT is the way to go.  And by using a large diameter rotor having lots of PM's on its circumference you can get higher frequency operation without the need for a step-up geabox.  And no slip-rings.  And air coils so no core losses.

@Steve - Local Motors are best known for their Rally Fighter 4x4. Big tough stuff. Based in Phoenix, AZ and founded in 2007.
However, they are very novel, building an online community for vehicle designs, where people vote, encourage and support ideas into production. People generally build their own car/bike/whatever from a rolling chassis that Local Motors builds for them.
On their homepage is a 3D printed car !

Ideal company for an electric car project...when I win the lottery lol

Lynx's VAWT's are great. He's developed some amazing designs from tiny to 5ft wide.

Sorry to derail a little Mr.Caribbean, but I think that with the talented people here we can drive straight through some energy problems, like a cold North wind :)
