Maybe instead you have sections of material that are pole flipping...? Couple that with some of the recent posts by T-1000 describing iron moving across magnets...? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVa49Eg9RAU I think the point being in a toroidal setup there is no fixed north or south pole. But if you imagine a train in constant motion, the snake eating its tail, you may get some ideas how this scenario could be created and harnessed.
