Hi All,

 I'm planning to build the the Jame's Hardy water wheel.

I just order 35 pelton blades of my experiment.

I only plan to redesign the housing, so the generator is above the water level.

What I got from his video is a 4" pulley on the generator and a 18" on the drive pulley.

This means it's a 1:4.5 ratio and the rpm's for the 18" pulley would need to be between (667rpm to 800rpm) 50hz-60hz

Torque would need to be a average of (5252/800rpm= 6.57ft/lb) or 8.74 lb of water thrust.

somebody mentioned a patent?
someone else said Mr.Hardy lived up my way at one time [new England ? ]

Any clue if this is still true? I'll look him up if so.

he might like to comment On Mr.Potter's product,here and elsewhere.

Yeah he got a patent, but that does not mention Overunity.

Hi Paul,

 I believe you're right. It's best not to copy this design due to  someone patents.

But there are 360 degrees to get to the top of the hill, so I plan to do it even better and simple and still have a basic working model.

Thanks for reminding me with the patent.

But the whole tone of the invention implies OU because the starting system is switched off and the generator then supplies the power to the pump as well as power to the load.  Para (0009) "According to another aspect of the invention, a starting system provides power to the pump.  The starting system includes a battery.  Alternatively the starting system could include an electric motor or a manual crank.  According to another aspect of the invention, once the generator commences generation of power, the power is used to continue operation of the pump." 

Also the description clearly states that the DC transfer switch (19) switches power for the pump, it disconnects from the battery and connects to the generator hence the system runs in closed loop.

Hi Smudge,

I was thinking of just using a permanent magnet low rpm generator, this takes all belt fiction lost out and pulley problems, and still falls into the same design as James Hardy.

What do you think?

Hi Tom,

Go for it.  If the youtube videos are not fake there is definitely something going on here so it is worth exploring, and if you can get  rid of the pulleys and belt so much the better.  I know a guy in Florida who has a design for a very low RPM generator for use with Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT) but it is not in production.  Don't even know whether a prototype has been built, I was involved with some verification simulations on it.  It used lots of PM's and air cores so no core losses.
