Peter,

Trace route uses UDP protocol by default and really needs to be enabled on all devices along the path in order to be conclusive.

There could well be a routing issue somewhere along the line.  Also, keep in mind many routers are actually firewalls and it's quite common to see some of them mis-configured.

How long have you been unable to connect from work?

Group: Guest
I've not been able to log on or even load this website here while using my desktop computer for a long time now, but I can log on using my laptop on the same network, just recently (last two days) i've been unable to load up the overunity.com website as well now with the desktop computer.

However I have a mobile wireless broadband "hotspot" device, and with it my desktop computer will load up all sites, so it seems the problem with the wired broadband provider, the wired broadband is provided by a different provider than the wireless broadband.

To recap, when using my desktop computer connected to a wired network I have been unable to load up this site for a long time, now since just recently I can not load up the overunity.com site either. Something is not working. But I don't think it is in the site code because now overunity.com won't work either and it's only with this one computer and these two sites on my wired broadband connection.

Quite odd.

Hi Farmhand
OH sorry to hear that, not sure why it is.

Matt
Was like it when i got into work this morning, it's not just this site, seems to be all my hosted websites and hence i cannot read any email accounts, right now i am remoting from work to my home comp and surfing that way, which is alright until the Mrs starts playing Candy Crush  8)

And it could well be the "Internet Kill Switch" we have heard talk about has multiple settings to slowly block people out.  Sites like this one with real people doing real research would obviously be a target.

I would start to get real suspicious if after a few days, things do not return to normal.

There may be some temporary congestion in that "area" involving the site's host and your office

If they want to kill you, then they'll kill you. They don't need to be fancy.

Why haven't they killed the CEO of Nissan for producing the Leaf?

I think you are right Paul, they can only block a person by ip address and i have changed that, it has to be that tracert No3 which is plusnet my provider, I've opened a ticket says it can take 19 hours GRRR.

Dear Peter.

You may, or may not be aware of the passing of what has become known as "The gagging law" here in the UK. ??

Part of the brief was to ban access to what was termed as "Esoteric" web sites.  Mainly aimed at the reduction of Pornography but "Esoteric" could be expanded to all sites that don't quite fit the Governments ideas of what our society should be reading about.

It would seem that quite a number of ISP's are already "towing the line" and switching off certain WWW sites they feel are Esoteric !!

Just a thought.

Cheers Grum.

Peter,

I have at times had similar problems and always just after certain comunications with third parties that just might be deemed by listeners in to be a bit near the point that they do not like. One time they completely wiped my files and that was when I was away for a few days. My computor was off but was accessed remotely by switching it on when connected via the router, sometimes I find my computor on when it has been off, I now disconnect the router as well when I go away.

My neighbour is a programmer and he went through my computor and found an auto download program, this by exterior switch on was downloading files to a holding point where later they would be collected, no way of knowing by whom.

Things in this day and age that we have to live with, but now I am careful not to hold important things on my computor, I have two and the other one is never connected to the net.

Regards

Mike 8)

As a computer and network tech for many decades I'll toss in my view on this.   First thing I would try is to get Tails ( https://tails.boum.org/ ) which will get you on Onion routing and most likely bypass any blocks.   It is also one of your best annonymous setups and a complete very secure Linux OS which can be booted from a CD/DVD or USB pen drive.   You could also get the TOR browser by itself here:  https://www.torproject.org/  which also is very secure.   However since both of those will take some download time here are some other things to try that are quicker and simpler.   Get Security Kiss Tunnel or Spotflux which are both excellent free proxy programs and should bypass any blocks.   Small and they work well.   Security Kiss is limited to 300 MB / day unless you subscribe but that would be plenty for email and forum work.   Spotflux is unlimited free but has pop ads any time you open a new web page - not that bad really.

Another yet even easier thing to try is to change your DNS settings to use Googles DNS servers :  8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4   This might get you around some of the problems just by changing these in  your Control panel > network options.   Some other causes of these problems can be your hosts servers or the servers along a route to your intended destination IP.   While the Internet is supposed to go around such issues as these sometimes things get bad enough for a while (usually less than a day) that you may not be able to reach a few destinations from your location.   If you try the Tails though it should get around most of this.   Hopefully this is not a sign the the Net Neutrality ruling that just passed this week thanks to F***ING companies like Verizon and Comcast.   They are the Internets worst ENEMIES.  My suggestion is that if you have a Verizon phone - change to another company.   If you have Comcast change to any of the many other ways to get your content.

Two more quick notes.   If you are trying out Tails or a Tor browser you will likely find Internet speeds to be slower but not generally a problem for forum browsing or low bandwidth surfing.  One other smaller and extremely secure Linux OS that is setup with the TOR network is Liberty Linux.   It's a complete OS with industrial strength security (it even wipes your RAM when you shutdown - or did you think shutting off your computer that RAM was safe just 'cause you pull the plug when the MIB's coming busting in on you ?  LOL - think freeze spray ... )  - and is still lightweight in size coming in at only about 220 Megabytes - easy and fairly fast boot even from a slow USB pendrive.   Liberty Linux is here:  http://dee.su/liberte

Just another quick note for anyone who wants to try Tails (I highly recommend) is to choose 'Windows camouflage' when it asks if you want more options on the initial bootup.  Choose yes to more options and if you choose Windows camo it will make the whole OS a lot more like Windows for anyone who has not used Linux much.   Tails was just today released in version 1.0 but it has been around a long while.   It is well supported and updated often.   For anyone wishing to use this as a multiboot option I recommend going to www.pendrivelinux.com and getting the free Yumi multiboot installer.   Best thing that has every happened for multiboot.   While it is intended for USB pendrives or external USB hard drive I found it also works with internal hard drives but don't try using it on your already installed Windows OS.

Wouldn't you know it?   The first time I've ever seen a problem getting the Tails download is today.   I just went there to grab it myself but it seems 1.0 is missing at the moment.   If you want to grab there previous version to try it out it is here:   http://dl.amnesia.boum.org/tails/stable/tails-i386-0.23/    which is about 940 Megabytes so depending on your D/L speed you might want to wait until they get 1.0 up or you can probably get 1.0 from their torrent download link.

NEVERMIND  C.C     It seems they have already fixed the 1.0 direct download - it's working again.

Try....

tracert -d -4 -h 40 www.overunityresearch.com > our.txt

then....

type our.txt |more

More often than not, WindBlows is showing prowess (not) on avoiding confusion of IPV6 in a process, domain name resolution round-robin problems and circular logic results.

I can have very similar traceroute results from my WindBlow$ box and a perfectly clean result from my OpenBSD boxen.

Don't add more fluff to Micr0$not products. They have enough already embedded.

If you want to get really paranoid about all those watching get this nice little network traffic watch program   ;)      :
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/network_traffic_view.html

It's a free program too.

Peter,

Move that exploding wire experiment to a members only area.

If you still have the items for that experiment you can make something very interesting with it.

Peter,

From your results I strongly suspect that your work gateway, or your work provider, is intentionally not replying to pings. This also breaks conventional traceroutes.
However, there does appear to be a packet dropping issue between Ace Data Centers and WebSiteWelcome

He.net is a major backbone and colocation provider but I doubt they are tier-1. The person viewing your exploding wire experiments 'IS' your colocation provider's internet upstream provider (Ace Data Centers).

Use HE's looking-glass to traceroute from other points for more troubleshooting. ( lg.he.net )
