I would like to know what TT means also.  I see it used a lot over on the Russian forums.

If I had to bet, my money would be on it being Russian characters used as an acronym that is at the heart of this whole phenomena.

1. Clearly the core is wrapped with a shield that is split, as to not make a complete loop.  In this design though, he does not connect the shield to ground.

So in this case, if there is any NMR, it would have to manifest itself in the copper coils and aluminum shield correct?  There is no ferrite core.

It would also seem to me that a spectral analysis contains information of the resonance for both the windings and the NMR--one would have to know which to look for.  If you added a ferrite core, now there would be three peaks to consider.  Or do I have this all wrong?  Maybe it has always been the NMR causing the resonance.  Have we been working with the effect instead of the cause?

In the video where akula explains principle, he says effect is happening in copper coil of receiver (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuoISZAlFAc). The shield IMHO is only part of tuning mechanism (capacity, capacitive coupling)

But, I'm just wondering whether these are not some 'digarechou'.

I'm just  claiming that wrapping a simple "off the shelf" inductor with a (non shorted) "off the kitchen"
bl' aluminium foil and connecting the said inductor (that is becoming an inductor-capacitor) in strange (IMHO)
ways can lead to interesting results.

This (non-shorted) f' aluminum foil is not my idea at all.
Simply, I use my intuition first, instead of my critical mind, when I see some non conventional claims.

I just saw this over on the A 30w thread over on OU.com

It is a self running simulation using 555 timer.  Cool!  8)

Edit: I wonder if this would work on a more powerful simulator like Multisim?  This circuit is like the RomeroUK circuit Jean posted.

No, because the 555 timer is badly simulated in Falstad. Its supply power is less than its output power. More energy comes out of the Out pin than goes into the Vin pin.

So i have been working through the parts list for GL's board, mainly for Grumage, to compile a Farnell parts list and price.

Peter,

Great work on the part list.

I have a pause in my soldering, waiting for parts. I'm one resistor short and I also did
order another core for the coil. So my board will be done in a week or two. I'm
still waiting for delivery of the "Bread board" type experiment board. I will send this
board to members, probably next week, as fast as I get them.

I have attached a few shots of my initial build on stripboard. I have kept as close as possible to Akula's component values. The small stripboard with 5 x 1R2 paralleled resistors makes up R3 (on Akula's schematic) , and comes out at around 0.24R, as I did not have a 0.22R. I used an array of 10 x 3W LED chips manufactured by AVAGO, type ASMT-JW32-NWXH1 (see attached data sheet).

My initial observation on power-up from my bench supply was that I could not increase the supply voltage above 6.8V without hitting my set current clamp at 5A. The 'stop' switch worked OK and current draw was only increased slightly when operated. Frequency range was 17KHz to 138KHz. I have attached a waveform scoped (x10 probe) at the mosfet drain with respect to ground. My advice to other builders is not to power-up straight from a 12V battery, as its quite possible that your LED's will pop! Pot R11 appeared to do nothing at all. The ferrite coil former was first wrapped with a gaped copper foil prior to winding the coils. Connecting the foil to earth did not appear to change anything. I tried gaping the ferrite 'E'-core's and butting them but could not detect any audible ringing. I  also reversed the coil phasing, again with no noticeable changes in operation.

Thanks to Peterae for sending me a PCB which I will populate a bit further into this project.

Good evening Hoppy.

I don't think there is any doubt about that negative going pulse !!  :)

I have a couple of questions.

1.  Is your transformer wound 15 one end and 45 the other, split between ?

2.  What is your duty cycle ?

I am still testing with a simple Mosfet PWM with less than 10% duty and current measured with DVM from 12VDC 7 AH LAB.  With this set up I rarely reach even 1 Amp !!

Great work Hoppy!  I noticed you are using resistors for load.  Do you need to add a diode in series?  I think someone said LEDs were also used as diode in circuit?

No, the resistors are for making up R1. See my earlier post and attachment that shows the data sheet for the LED's I used.
