that's how the universe replenishes itself, it's like a central energy source that distributes energy to everything around in quick bursts, sort of like a flyback converter!
Speaking of the mysterious: Who can identify this device? (found it on the internet a while ago and I tapped my sources and nobody can identify it with certainty, so I'm putting out here for you guys)
It's tempting to think it's a high power LASER, based on the color and length of the beam, but the shape of the beam indicates it is thrust from some type of jet engine, which forms those cones, yet the light is very puzzling, and the shape of the nozle is also bizzare. I think this was a highly secretive weapon in development that got leaked. and no it wasn't by me! I have no plans to run to mother Russia!
It is a methane and oxygen booster engine, it is being developed for a maned mars trip. The methane will be made on mars for the return trip, the pulsations is a frequency phenomina when running at full thrust. The methane will come from the CO2 and water on mars, many are working on a reactor to make the methane, one is me with moderate success. The energy for running the reactor will come from solar, the bye product is O2 which will be use as oxidant and also for breathing. The problem most are finding is the amount of H2 as methane is CH4, so on energy covertion more H2 is required than will be obtained from water, so half the H2 will have to be carried from earth unless the electrolysis of water can be made more efficient. The reaction of CO2 and H2 gives CH4+H2O, as can be seen water for drinking is also a bye product, The reactor is an updated Sabatier reactor, once up and running it maintains it's own heat for the reaction so the power will only be required for the electrolysis. There are videos around showing short burns of this type of engine, very impressive Mike
