Well i built a coil as per his first instructions.

2 turns thicker Secondary.

my controller is running at 1.2mhz psu at 63volts 35nS pulse width, i have a 12v 5watt bulb in series with the primary and a 12volt 5 watt bulb across the secondary, both light, if i drop the freq down to 500khz the secondary bulb is brighter than the primary bulb, but this does not mean OU it only mean the voltage is being dropped across the coil not the primary bulb, i havnt yet done any power calculations.

My personal feelings are this is just induction or coupling at this point.

Nice coil Peter!  We should give a more elaborate and step by step construction process here!

Thanks ST there is an animation that was put together by a poster on OU i followed that for the wind and AG's dimensions for the tube in his first post.

Hi Lindsay

Thanks for posting.

I am driving my fet with a fet driver @18v gate supply.

My sig gen only goes down to 10khz with this setup, so the following tests were carried out @ 10khz

The first 4 pictures were carried out with 12 volts to the high side of the coil, with a 12v 5 watt bulb in series with the primary
The secondary is 2 turns and had a 20 ohm Resistor as a load

The green Trace is the Primary coil, and the yellow is the secondary coil across the 20 Ohm resistor

For the last scope shot, i used 30v psu supply to the coil, used my 20 Ohm resistor in series with the primary, the secondary was scoped open with no load, and the yellow trace is across this secondary coil which is 2 turns.
I had to be fast as my 20 Ohm resistor was smoking.

@Peterae

Is the resistor smoking while the scope only shows transients? The trace indicates a small amount of average D.C. (I think).

This question may sound stupid but....

Do you have a means to measure the current going into the resistor other than calculating it from voltage across the resistor?

Nevermind. I read again and see the resistor is on the primary.

I'm a coiler...what can I say.  All those JT's over the past few years really helps.  I really do need some help on hooking it up though!
