I recently had an experience that proved to me that someone had access to something they shouldn't have. My son works for a major airline. My wife and I can fly for free if there are any extra seats left after the paying passengers are all seated. We recently wanted to go to New Orleans from Atlanta. We got bumped from the first flight and went to the next gate for the next flight to New Orleans. Shortly after we got to that gate I got a notice on my phone that I had a email to my Gmail account from Google that reminded me of my new flight time so I wouldn't be late at the gate. The thing is, I don't use Gmail on my phone and the airline does not have my Gmail account information. My phone is an Android phone so I do have to have my Gmail information on the phone in order to download anything from the Playstore. After we got bumped from that flight the same thing happened when we got to the gate for the next flight. Anyone that thinks we are not being watched is certainly out of touch with reality.

My son and some of his friends at work were discussing taking a trip to Alaska. The next time my son logged onto his PC he started getting pop-ups for trips to Alaska. And some of his friends did also. And I know of other people this has happened to also.

Hi Mags, For some moronic reason a few years ago Bellsouth decided to turn over their email service to Yahoo. Not too long after that I discovered I was not getting some of my emails. If a friend of mine from church sent out a group email I did not get it. If he sent me an individual email I did get it. When I found an online web site for problems with Yahoo email I found that a lot of other people were having the same problem and almost all of them were church members not getting group mailings from church yet other group mailings were getting through. I did find that they were being put into an online spam folder that I could get to after logging in online to my Bellsouth email. It seems Yahoo has a problem with church people making group mailings. I have since then switched to a private email provider that doesn't censor my emails for me. I am really suspicious of those people that insist there are no conspiracies. Either they are very very naive or they are part of the conspiracy. When you take in use new phone, you asked to agree with terms of use. Read them carefully

Also, remember that all internet traffic is recorded, even encrypted. (guess yourself for what reason)

Be aware though that U.S. (and other countries) law requires that all telecommunications carriers and equipment providers enable government law enforcement agencies to conduct (lawful) surveillance when needed.

There is no such thing as privacy in modern world.

If you get involved in FE research, be ready for trouble.

I agree with what you're saying, Vasik, "this is not a conspiracy".
Most of the data that can be used by commercial companies or governments is provided by people themselves on social networks, shopping sites, forums... People spread their private lives out anywhere. For example, CITFTA tells us here that he is married, his son's industry, the benefits he receives for his air travel. All this can then be exploited, in particular by automated systems that connect the information found on various sources thanks to their common points. This way they know who is in touch with whom, the nature of their relationship, their friendly, professional and family network... and people can be the target of personalized advertising. People provide everything to be followed, then wonder why they are being tracked

, and even imagine that the Internet has been planned for that by a few big conspirators, when it is only exploited as it is, to make money (or for so-called "national security").

One thing I don't understand, is why people don't change the data!

Why does the stuff collected have to actually be about the things you do? why not spoof it, give them crappy data.
With crappy data, the collection outfits can't know if what they know is what they know.
A conditioning is with many sites asking for real personal info, it's tied to bank accounts, verified with phone calls etc. Great! it's you, definitely you and all data coming to them is going to be about you. Nope, doesn't have to be.

Personally, I search for 'dumb s#' frequently

You could take an interest in fly fishing, follow a pop band on Twitter, look at scuba diving gear, angel cake recipes. It's not what interests you BUT the data collection outfits sponge it up to use as your profile. It's bogus noise that ruins the data set.
Prime example was recently. I started looking up local golf clubs, originally was wanting to find out about the prices of the lead weights on the end of golfing sticks but went from there. So far, I've had 3 golf related magazines delivered to my door LOL
Their data is wrong.
Extrapolate that into different areas of life.
Basically, do things differently. Download hidden object game apps that you'll never play, join an XBOX forum, look at bathroom tile prices, tell the world about your rescue dog Petra.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to check some special offers on water beds and plan my vacation to Cancun.

I did get a goog acct for apps. I dont use the acct for anything else. Crap, they own my yt acct. They know who you are via the android phone and they collect all that data. Guys on YT did a test using a cell tower repeater they had in a briefcase that collected all data going in and out of the couple of phones used for the test. They turned off the phones and pulled out the sim cards and had a couple people, each with a disabled phone and walked around I believe Wash DC area for the day. Ait lunch, shopped, etc. At the end of the day, they reinstalled the sims, turned on the briefcase repeater system then turned on the phones, one at a time I think it was, and the data that was sent out about the locations of the day, etc was shocking. We think these phones are made for our benefit, needs. That all is just to keep you on the leash of info sucking. Yahoo has turned into something I dont recognize but I have 3 email accts there. Im sure they sucked up and are keeping copies of all my emails. Meh, some things these days we seem to not be able to live without. Used to be we wouldt talk on the phone or hear msgs till we got home. Now nobody seems to be able to put down their phones for more than min at a time. My boss just got rid of 2 guys like that at work. I have to say it would be hard to not have the things I have access to via my phone. I use as a hotspot, 15g a month for $10. Thats really all I need and have internet at home and shop or on a trip. Its not streaming movie fast, but its fine. Mags

Group: Mad Scientist Hero Member Posts: 678	My phone before this one I had thought to make a metalic case to keep it from being able to transmit while traveling, walking, etc. But I had found that when the phone was locked in my work tool box, thing got very hot. apparently if it doesnt have good or any signal, it beefs up the ability to try and make contact. Just the same as when you have low signal normally, it transmits stronger, which makes no sense if it cant receive. Havnt tried any of this with my latest version. My dell laptop with windows 7 was always bugging me to get windows 10 for free. Was killing my hotspot data. Apparently it had already loaded LOTS or all of windows 10 already and just waited for me to say yes. Then I found GWX Control Panel which shuts down all windows 10 initiatives and deletes all W10 downloaded software. But even now, I have all windows updates shut off and i use hibernate for time periods and do shutdown or resets once in a while to get a quicker boot time, and when I boot from hibernation, over 100megs, nearly 200megs at times, is sent out before I even do anything related to the internet. We would need an extension in the browser, which would make that kind of noise in a background tab, but in a subtle way to give the impression that it is human navigation. On my side, every time I open the browser, the cookies are deleted, and I also try to change my IP quite often. But all this has been boring for a few months, since when there are no cookies, the site thinks it's your first time, and must present you with the window asking you to accept cookies! It is a legal obligation at least in Europe I think, to protect people, those who are not smart enough to understand cookies, our decision-makers take us for idiots. Like most security measures, by annoying us it is counterproductive: people who deleted cookies will no longer delete them so they won't be bothered by this message. It's like the requirement for complicated passwords, so people write them down or make files out of them. Security problems come mainly from those who set the rules.
