I would put Puppy Linux on a flash drive (even a one gig will work but probably better a 4 gig - less than $5 from many sources now) and see if you get the same results. Tails won't work to use traceroute since that is one of the very things it prevents for security reasons. Go into the Terminal (or Console) in Puppy Linux and use the traceroute command to see what you get. You could have something messed up with Windows or a virus or malware. Running a traceroute from Linux will eliminate that possibility and you will know for sure if it's your computer or something else. I've even seen network adapters go bad to where they flake out part of the time causing problems similar to this although I see that as a less likely scenario. Puppy Linux is small and very easy to use also and can be run from a CD or usb flash drive easily. Just grab a Puppy Linux Iso and burn it the iso to a CD and you can either boot that way or boot it up from CD and then make a bootable usb flash drive (it's a menu selection in Puppy Linux that let's you make a bootable Puppy Linux flash drive). If you have a laptop you could also probably run it at work off Puppy to see what traceroute finds that way too. Several versions of Puppy - here is one that should be easy and is only about 156 Mb : http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/precise-5.7.1/precise-5.7.1.iso Puppy seems to work well with most common hardware and you can be up and on the Internet once you've booted it in just a minute or two. I would give that tech a phone call if possible as it may be faster to get an answer but email may work. Sometimes they are quite busy and slow to respond but everyone is different. BTW do you have a firewall ? You should if you don't but I'll assume you do and if so can you look at logs of blocked web sites? The logs of them can tell you a lot. Sometimes firewalls can get messed up too and will end up blocking a lot of things they shouldn't which could cause the problems you are having also.

Do you ever do a major backup of the site? Remember way back we had a forum called TPU123 when @otto was doing his ECD experiments? Well, before it went offline I backed up the complete site. My router sits in a cupboard attached to a pc i use for storage and bitcoin mining. i can remote into this and it's connected via ethernet, no monitor or keyboard on it, but OUR.com timesout even though it connects via ethernet. Now to reset the router i took it out of the cupboard and connected it to my main comp using ethernet, normally i wireless into the router, well it worked OK when i ehterneted in, but having put it back in the cupboard it stops allowing OUR.com again. Strange thing is that the comp in the cupboard with ethernet connection OUR does not not work either. So i took it out the cupboard again and connected to main comp again using ethernet and it works, go back to wireless to my router and it stops again. Very strange, still scratching my head right now. At least i know it's not the my isp to host server connection, despite it looking that way from tracert.

Group: Administrator Hero Member Posts: 3961	Wow this is weird, i finally got it working, it turned out the dial on demand setting in my router was not ticked, but it gave the same fault, i could surf most websites but i think anything with a logon was timing out, or something like that anyway. Well i am working again THANK GOD

Group: Administrator Hero Member Posts: 3961	LOL indeed, but it's still not fixed yet, i thought it was and it was for a while, seems to work sometimes having reset the router but other times it just wont work, i think it's either the router or my wireless dongle, I've tried googling things and been trying various but still no solid fix, as both comps don't work one with ethernet and other with wireless i guess it must be the router although i am also having suspicions that one comp maybe screwing it up as it seems to work more often with the ethernet disconnected. I hate intermittent faults, thing is i only have 2 more weeks at the place with this setup anyway so i am not going to loose sleep over it.

Hero Member Posts: 520	@Peterae I remember the last time I had to reset my router I also had to readjust the default value for MTU from 5000 to 4096 or something otherwise the router would lag. wattsup --------------------------- http://etherimpress.com
