I then saw his second design pop up some time later. Seems to me to be nothing more than a solenoid engine.But one cant argue that only a permanent magnet will act against an electromagnet with such force--no other material will do this. They say that PM's cant do useful work--> i say remove them from your PM DC motor,and see how useful it is now. love the guy's heat test method-i just used my fingers to see how hot the coil got lol. --------------------------- Never let your schooling get in the way of your education.

Like i said,nothing is attracted(or repelled) to an electromagnet more than a PM-->nothing comes close. A PM motor is generally more efficient because the I2R (heat) losses are reduced somewhat. It is also interesting considering what happens because the PM attraction to the core is free however the core is now saturated. This means when we apply a current to the coil the saturated core makes the coil act as a resistance not an inductor so we gain more initially on attraction then we lose more on repulsion as I2R losses...it's a wash. Now I understand some might assume there is nothing we can do to change this and they might also assume this proves the conservation of energy. I personally believe the conservation of energy is valid however it should be understood that in every case we always use one magnetic field to act on another. Thus the whole of our conventional technology is based on a system in which we can never really gain anything. It is only when I came to understand what a magnetic field is fundamentally, not what it does what it is, that I began to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
